Behind the Shoot: Tia Mowry

Take a look at what happened behind the scenes of our May cover shoot with Tia Mowry!

On the ’90s hit show “Sister, Sister,” Tia Mowry played Tia Landry, the quiet, bookish twin opposite spunky Tamera. But on the morning of our cover shoot, Tia proved that all she has in common with her former sitcom character is a first name (and a real-life twin). Tia brought boatloads (floppy hat-fulls?) of energy on set and shone brightly solo while the camera flashed.

FACE ON

Even though our cover shoot was held on Oscars Sunday—one of the busiest days of the year for Hollywood-based glam teams—two of Tia’s favorite pros showed up for the actress they love. Motoko Honjo kept Tia’s cheeks from getting too shiny while Kendra Garvey crafted a killer ponytail.

MOVES LIKE MOWRY

When it was camera-time, Tia requested a Pandora switch to her fave pump-up channel: Today’s Hip Hop & Pop Hits. When a girls’ in between takes, she needs something to dance to! Tia goofed around, making the crew crack up with a few seconds of her best twerk.

CLOTHES CALL

There were (literally) hundreds of running shoes, sports bras, tops and tights to choose from on set, but Tia kept it simple with two cute looks: Puma Gym Tank Top ($40, puma.com) and Reebok One Series Hot Short ($35, reebok.com) for our cover and Puma Gym AllEyesOnMe Jacket ($70, puma.com), Lululemon Run: Pace Crop ($86, lululemon.com) and Puma Faas 300 v3 Running Shoes ($90, puma.com) for the trike.

TIA TIME

While the crew guzzled iced coffees, lattes and half-caffs during the morning shoot, Tia’s Starbucks order was a hot green tea. After a health scare that threatened her fertility, the actress revamped her eating (and drinking) to get well. She’s now gluten-free and vegan—and mom to her 3-year-old son named Cree! Beep Beep!

Tia channeled her inner child on the photographer’s mini tricycle. “Please don’t fall!” her publicist yelled, as Tia rolled down the studio’s ramp.
