Just two days before attempting her first marathon, we photographed softball legend Jennie Finch at James Weber Studio (jamesweberstudio.com) in Manhattan. The Louisiana local was in town to run the 2011 New York City Marathon. Jennie was all smiles as she prepared to start in last place at the race – for every runner she passed, Timex promised to donate $1 to the New York Road Runners Youth Program.

MARATHON MOMMY

As a two-time Olympic-medalist, Jennie is no stranger to tough competition. But she admitted being a little nervous about running 26.2 miles for the very first time – especially after giving birth to her second son, Diesel, just four months prior to the race!

RACE FACE

Makeup artist Kim Weber (far left) relaxed with the crew after getting Jennie’s beautiful face and trademark golden locks ready for the shoot (kimweber.com).

HEALTHY EATS

Water, fresh fruit and hummus were on hand for snacking – perfect pre-race fuel!

PERFECT FIT

Women’s Running art director Melissa Mellert joked with Jennie at the shoot. “She was one of the sweetest people I’ve ever worked with!” said Melissa.

HAPPY FEET

Photographer James Weber (jamesweberstudio.com) shot Jennie striding toward the camera in her favorite pair of trainers, Mizuno Wave Inspire 8 (mizunousa.com), the same shoes she planned to wear during the marathon.

SUCCESSFUL STRIDES

Sunday following the shoot, Jennie’s training paid off when she passed over 30,000 runners on her way to the marathon finish line.

COVER STYLE

On our cover, Jennie sports a Mizuno Jinx Sport Top and Aero Split Short (mizunousa.com). The former softball’s favorite running gadget, the Timex Ironman Run Trainer GPS ($225, timex.com), shines smartly on her wrist.
