For the second time, Alysia Montaño ran in the USA Championships while pregnant. She was four months along during her race this year—and to make her even more of a wondrous badass than she already is, she wore a Wonder Woman kit for the occasion. She was all smiles across the finish line and shared some remarks with the press after her race, including Citius Mag, with daughter Linnea next to her wearing a “Strong Like Mom” shirt and walking all around her. Too adorable.
On her experience running 8 months pregnant in 2014…
“I came here last time 8 months pregnant in 2014, and it was such an amazing experience. I reached so many people—especially women. They told me my journey and my story had inspired them in so many different ways. I think there’s something about coming out to any venue and not really expecting to win but just going along with the journey and seeing what comes out of it.”
On continuing the conversation…
“As a track and field athlete with the platform that I have, I feel so responsible to be a representative of people who don’t have the same platform, who don’t have the same voice that I do. So to be out there today, we knew it was still a thing [people would say, ‘Oh my gosh,’ to.] It’s still a conversation that needs to be had.”
On representing women everywhere…
“I represent so many people. I represent women, I represent black women, I represent pregnant women. Not everybody has the same platform I do, it’s my responsibility to be a voice and advocate for them.”
