Academy Award-nominated actor Ethan Hawke and his wife, Ryan Hawke, will both run the New York City Marathon on Sunday, Nov. 1. The couple will run to raise funds and awareness on behalf of The Doe Fund. This will be the couple’s first marathon.
“Ryan and I are both feeling daunted and terrified about taking on the TCS New York City Marathon,” said Ethan in a press release. “But fortune favors the bold, right? We are of course excited, too! We hope it’s going to be a great day for all the runners, and know that running the race on behalf of The Doe Fund will raise awareness to help many deserving people achieve their own personal success and stability.”
Ryan Hawke joined the track teams in middle-school and high school and hasn’t stopped running since. Now running recreationally, Ryan is credited with getting hubby Ethan into the sport. They enjoy running when they are visiting or working in a new place because it is an easy, affordable and fun way to see the area. Their most memorable runs include running the coast of Australia; Santa Fe; Austin; Greece (jealous yet?); in Parisian parks; and in the woods of Canada.

The Doe Fund aims to develop and implement cost-effective, holistic programs that meet the needs of a diverse population working to break the cycles of homelessness, addiction, and criminal recidivism. All of The Doe Fund’s programs and innovative business ventures ultimately strive to help homeless and formerly incarcerated individuals achieve permanent self-sufficiency. Through a variety of programs, The Doe Fund collectively serves more than 1,000 individuals every day.
“We wish Ethan and Ryan the best of luck this year as they both take on their first marathon at the 2015 TCS New York City Marathon,” said Peter Ciaccia, president of events for New York Road Runners and race director of the TCS New York City Marathon. “This race and experience will be especially meaningful, as they run on behalf of a charity organization which they passionately support. It takes an incredible amount of dedication to train for and complete the TCS New York City Marathon and we look forward to celebrating their successes at the finish line.”
