10 Songs That Have Gotten Stuck In Your Head

There's no doubt that one, two or all of these from the last 40 years have been stuck in your head at least once.

While assembling a playlist of songs that get stuck in your head, it was surprising how many of the most infectious melodies are ones you’ve never heard on the radio. For example, while considering possibilities, I came across numerous references to “It’s a Small World” from the Disney ride of the same name, the theme song from Mission Impossible, and the baby back ribs jingle from Chili’s commercials.

While undeniably catchy, you probably wouldn’t take these out for a run. Similarly, I eliminated every contender under 120 beats per minute (BPM)–which is why Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up” is conspicuously absent below. With unlikely and slower songs removed, what remains is an upbeat mix spanning four decades including 10 titles you can hardly read without hearing their tunes in your mind. For proof, take a look at the playlist below–then put its inexhaustible charms to work.

PSY – Gangnam Style – 134 BPM

Baha Men – Who Let the Dogs Out – 130 BPM

Roy Orbison – Oh, Pretty Woman – 127 BPM

Aqua – Barbie Girl – 131 BPM

Carly Rae Jepsen – Call Me Maybe – 120 BPM

Toni Basil – Mickey – 149 BPM

Ylvis – The Fox (What Does the Fox Say?) – 130 BPM

The Tokens – The Lion Sleeps Tonight (Wimoweh) – 122 BPM

The Black Eyed Peas – My Humps – 124 BPM

Haddaway – What Is Love – 125 BPM
