Happy Summer Solstice!
Hey guys—it’s officially the first day of SUMMER! Today is a super happy day as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. In the United States, the West Coast welcomed summer on June 20 at 9:24 p.m. while the East Coast welcomed the season on June 21 at 12:24 a.m.

For runners, summer is both the time of year to begin training for fall races and simultaneously to enjoy a season of carefree running. Don’t you love the feeling of waking up at dawn to run while the sun is blissfully ablaze in a pink glow of light? There’s also plenty of daylight to get a run in later in the day. Summer evenings are a special time to run, with cricket choruses filling the air as beautiful sunsets paint the sky.
Summer means we can enjoy icy drinks, cold popsicles, running through sprinklers, the peak peach season, plunging into pools, beach excursions…ahhh, we love summer.

- Plan your running goals for the second half of the year. You still have six months to go following the goals you made on New Years Day–it’s time to renew your zeal!
- Go on a sunset run today.
- Celebrate by having a sunset picnic with friends and family.
- Stay up late and stargaze.
- Find a safe place to have a bonfire (check the rules in your area)–then sing, dance and greet the start of summer.
