What is the best stretch to do before a workout?
The best way to loosen up before a run is to do some dynamic stretching. Also called “active stretching,” this is when you move the muscles to warm them up while also gently stretching them to alleviate tightness. Great exercises include high knees, butt kicks, skips and walking lunges.
If you want to try something different, search “rope stretching” on YouTube, and you will also find many beneficial stretches that use a rope as a tool to engage the leg muscles. This can be as simple as lying on your back with one leg extended straight above you, looping the rope under your shoe and gently pulling to activate your calves and hamstrings.
Even just five minutes of active stretching can make a big positive impact on the way you feel during your workout.
